Zack Snyders Justice League Reviews Are Out

Reviews are now out for “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” just three days before its launch on HBO Max this coming Thursday (March 18th).

With 103 reviews counted, the movie sits on a 75% and a 6.7/10 score on Rotten Tomatoes. That makes it the fourth-best of the DCEU films behind only the first “Wonder Woman,” “Shazam” and “Birds of Prey”. That’s also a vast improvement on Joss Whedon’s theatrical cut which clocked in at 40% and with a 5.3/10.

The new film isn’t expected to impact the direction of the DC Extended Universe, making it essentially an alternate endpoint for the three Snyder-verse films. Here’s a sampling of reviews below which paint an interesting picture:

“While more isn’t always better, that axiom is challenged by the subjective truth that this redo is an impressive improvement over the original release.” – Rob Hunter, Film School Rejects

“Snyder’s Justice League is more, more, more in a way that most films wouldn’t dare, and, after a year of no theaters at all… to see more movies that commit so completely to a vision that it’s impossible not to be swept away.” – Karen Han, Slate

“My mindset on this movie has changed from “a disaster” to “a competently made, interesting misfire.” The character development helps immensely… While watching Snyder’s version, I had a lot of, “ohhh, I see, that makes sense now,” moments.” – Mike Ryan, Uproxx

“Zack Snyder’s Justice League is remarkably uninterested in people. Its heroes are gods with no believers, walking nuclear weapons that have deigned to prevent Earth from destruction. Yes, it is better than the theatrical cut of the film. Just about anything would have been. But the new edit also isn’t quite a movie.” – Joshua Rivera, Polygon

“This has to be one of the most visually spellbinding comic-book movies ever made…. The superhero movies that have achieved a genuine sweeping transcendence can just about be counted on one hand… to that hallowed list I would now add Zack Snyder’s Justice League.” – Owen Gleiberman, Variety

“This cut is an ensemble picture that does as good a job as MCU’s Avengers films of depicting a band of heroes as strong-willed, fully-rounded individuals…. This four-hour cut is the kind of brazen auteurist vision that Martin Scorsese was calling for when he complained (rightly) that most modern superhero movies don’t resemble cinema.” – Matt Zoller Seitz, RogerEbert.com

Clocking in at 242 minutes, “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” will come exclusively to HBO Max in the United States, HBO services in Europe and Binge in Australia.
