Andy Garcia has been set to play the title character in the Latinx reboot of “Father of the Bride” at Warner Bros. Pictures and Plan B.
The film will follow a father coming to grips with his daughter’s upcoming wedding through the prism of multiple relationships within a big, sprawling Cuban-American family.
The new version is said to be more of a rom-com than the original Spencer Tracy or the Steve Martin-led remake, and overall is said to be more in the vein of the Tracy version.
Gaz Alazraki has been set to direct from a script by Matt Lopez. Dede Garner and Jeremy Kleiner will produce.
Garcia is coming off a lauded cameo as the sagely and sexual fantasy-inducing human embodiment of the Tommy Bahama brand in “Barb and Star Go To Vista Del Mar”. He’ll next be seen opposite Katey Sagal in the highly anticipated ABC drama “Rebel”.
