The first trailer for the new Netflix documentary series Amend: The Fight for America has been released. The show is hosted and produced by Will Smith and explores the history and meaning of the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
Amend: The Fight for America is a six-part series. The trailer sets out the importance of the 14th Amendment, which promises liberty and equal protection for all US citizens. It also reveals some of the big names who will be narrating the speeches and writings of the Amendment’s advocates and enemies, including Mahershala Ali, Diane Lane, Samuel L. Jackson, Laverne Cox, Pedro Pascal, and Bobby Carnavale. It looks like must-see viewing when it hits Netflix on February 17–check the trailer out below:
In a statement about the series, Smith said, “I am honored to present Amend: The Fight for America. Our hope with this series is to illuminate the beauty that is the promise of America and to share a message of connection and shared humanity so that we will be able to better understand and celebrate our different experiences as Americans and promote progress toward the true equality promised to all persons under the 14th Amendment.”
Another recent Netflix documentary series hosted by a big movie star was the slightly-less-serious History of Swear Words. Nicolas Cage hosted that one, and it explored the roots and usage of a variety of curse words.
