Olivia Rodrigo has claimed a UK number one for her song Drivers License, and has managed to smash a record previously held by Ed Sheeran in the process.

The rising star, 17, has gone straight to number one on the singles chart with her debut track, which racked up an impressive 95,000 chart sakes and 10.9 million streams across the week.

As well as her number one, Drivers License also set a new Official Chart record, surpassing Ed Sheeran’s Shape Of You to the UK’s highest number of streams ever in a single day for a non-Christmas song.

Drivers License got almost 2.407m streams in 24 hours on January 12 while Shape of You previously held the record from 2017 with 2.274m streams in a 24 hour period.

Olivia’s also got the biggest opening week of overall chart sales for a number one debut single in almost five years, since Zayn Malik’s Pillowtalk in February 2016.

Quite the achievements to add to the CV for Olivia, who is still two months shy of even turning 18 – which also puts her in great company with other artists who scored a number one before turning 18.

Others who have achieved this feat include Jawsh 685, who hit Number 1 with Savage Love last year with Jason Derulo.

Olivia’s number one also knocked Little Mix’s Sweet Melody, which was last week’s chart-topper, into the number two slot.

On the Official Albums Chart, Barry Gibb scored his first solo UK number one album with Greenfields: The Gibb Brothers’ Songbook (Vol. 1).

The record is a collection of country interpretations of classic Bee Gees hits and features collaborations with Dolly Parton and Olivia Newton-John among others, and which got over double the chart sales of its closest competition, with 83% of the total made up of physical copies.
