In the ’90s, there were a few live-action adaptations of your favorite videos games, like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and Super Mario Bros. While the movies themselves may not have been award-winning masterpieces, they have a fond place in many of our hearts.

In a new video from Fandango, these aforementioned videos–and a few more–are highlighted, each with interesting behind-the-scenes facts. This video includes some video game adaptations you may have forgotten about, like Wing Commander and Double Dragon.

“Mortal Kombat changed video games forever,” says Fandango managing editor Erik Davis, “And 25 years ago, the film version helped usher in a new era of movies based on video games, upping the ante with memorable characters, impactful music and surround sound and awesome fight choreography. Its mythology was rich with imagination, and its storyline was reminiscent of classic martial arts movies. That combination produced an instant classic that’s amassed a massive fan base over the years, with the film still celebrated 25 years after its initial release.”

The release of the video coincides with the new Flashbacks section putting the spotlight on all video game adaptations throughout the years. Mortal Kombat is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, and you can buy the film for $8 in HD and SD. Check out just some of the movies Fandango is highlighting.
