A Place in the Sun fans were left heartbroken when one couple, Gary and Claire, had to walk away from their dream home over a battle with fibromyalgia.
However, it seems the story is set for a happy ending as the pair have revealed their dream isn’t over.
Claire was previously diagnosed with fibromyalgia, a chronic condition that causes pain all over the body.
She and her husband Gary were forced to walk away from their dream home on the show, a townhouse in Corralejo, Fuertaventura, after realising that she wouldn’t be able to cope with the stairs every day.
However, speaking to Metro.co.uk, Claire revealed they haven’t given up on their property search – although coronavirus has certainly got in the way.
‘I think we definitely made the right decision. It was heartbreaking. It was horrible because the house that we fell in love with had two sets of stairs […] it was just really sad,’ she recalled.
Asked if she and Gary are still looking, she said: ‘Yeah, we are because Covid has arrived, hasn’t it? So we actually have plans to go back out quite soon.
‘The good thing about doing A Place In The Sun was that we we actually met a couple of estate agents that knew what we were looking for.’
Claire added that the pair of them now know ‘exactly what they need’ and assured us the dream definitely isn’t over, adding: ‘I just can’t wait to get out there.’
Although Claire had to walk away from her dream home, she was certainly well looked after, revealing there were unseen moments that saw the team and director making sure she was okay to continue filming.
‘When I was poorly when we were away [the team] were all brilliant and they kept texting my husband and ringing to see if I was all right, did they need to get me a doctor and is there anything [they can do]?
‘They were very caring and I think it was it was genuine, you know they weren’t doing it because they have to. It was just the sort of people they were.’
Claire went on to say: ‘They kept making sure I was all right and that I had somewhere to sit and that I wasn’t getting too tired or sore on the day so they really took my condition into consideration whilst they were filming which was brilliant.’
Asked what she wants people to take away from the show regarding her condition, Claire admitted she’d never heard of it until she was diagnosed.
‘It’s a really hard condition to be diagnosed because it does have a lot of symptoms and different people have different symptoms,’ she explained.
She went on to say of her diagnosis: ‘It was great actually talking to somebody medical who actually understood what I was feeling. I know that people look at me and they don’t think there’s anything wrong with me, because I don’t look like there’s anything wrong with me.
‘And it really, really gets you to appreciate that actually, you shouldn’t judge people because you don’t actually know what they’re going through.’
