Netflix has released the first images of the late Chadwick Boseman’s final work – the film adaptation of August Wilson’s award-winning play “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” set to open December 18th.
Set in 1927 Chicago, the story follows trailblazing blues singer Ma Rainey (Viola Davis) as she grapples with issues of race, music, relationships and the exploitation of Black recording artists.
Boseman plays Ma’s boyfriend Levee, a young, ambitious trumpeter who aspired to make his own mark in the music industry.
Glynn Turman, Colman Domingo and Michael Potts co-star while George C. Wolfe helms the project which is set for release on December 18th.
