Great British Bake Off’s latest eliminated contestant Rowan has said his ‘impossibly ambitious goals’ got the better of him in a sweet goodbye note.
Rowan knew he was skating on thin ice during Bread Week after being saved previously in Biscuit Week.
Unfortunately, despite his best efforts, he was sent packing – but the academic is leaving the show with no regrets and, in a sweet farewell, wrote a letter thanking the team for the experience.
In the letter, shared by the Bake Off team, Rowan wrote: ‘Late last year I decided it was time for an adventure, so filled in the Bake Off application and so began an amazing journey – the trip of a lifetime!
‘What an extraordinary experience in this most extraordinary of years!
‘Although it was fabulously harder work than I could have ever imagine (the in-tent baking is just the tip of a very large iceberg), and it has always been my weakness to set myself impossibly ambitious goals, I have loved every bit of this marvellous opportunity.’

Sending his thanks, he continued: ‘Everyone; from the technical, administrative and publicity teams to the celebrity presenters and judges have been, without exception, absolutely delightful, kind and hugely encouraging.
‘As for the other contestants, it has been an absolute pleasure and privilege to work alongside such talented and lovely people. I never once felt that we were competing against one-another: our only adversary was the clock!’
‘I am so grateful for the wonderful expert advice, feedback and encouragement from Prue and Paul, and for the fun times spirit with Noel and Matt who are so kind and lovely,’ he concluded, signing off with a kiss.
While Rowan’s time in the show was over, Marc managed to land himself the star baker accoldate after impressing Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith in his latest efforts.
Next week is Chocolate Week, with the gang coming up with some sweet treats to keep themselves in the competition.
Who will come out on top? And who will be next to go?
The Great British Bake Off airs Tuesdays at 8pm on Channel 4.
