It’s finally here. After the January 9 ceremony was delayed amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the 27th annual Critics’ Choice Awards finally took place Sunday, March 13.

The ceremony honored the best movies and television of the last year, chosen by more than 525 media critics and entertainment journalists who make up the Critics’ Choice Association. Taye Diggs (Private Practice) returned as host, a position he has held since 2019, but he had a cohost for the 2022 show. Nicole Byer (Nailed It!) joined him.

“Excited to be again hosting the Critics’ Choice Awards with Miss Nicole Byer,” Diggs, 51, said in a press release in late 2021. “It’s always a fun time and Miss Byer is hilarious. Very much looking forward to it.”

Byer, 35, added, “Ooooh! What a nice treat, I am so excited to be hosting the Critics’ Choice Awards with Taye! Oh, the gowns, the stars, the attention… on me on a stage cohosting! I’m very excited for all of it.”

The 2022 Critics’ Choice Awards was an international affair. While the show was based in Los Angeles at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel, viewers also got to travel across the pond throughout the night. Attendees in London celebrated at the Savoy Hotel, which was being advertised as “an integral part of the live telecast.” With the Critics’ Choice Awards happening just hours after the BAFTAs in England, it was a long night for the Britain’s best and brightest stars.

Among those A-listers were Nicolas Cage, Benedict Cumberbatch, Peter Dinklage, Andrew Garfield, Will Smith and Denzel Washington, all of whom were up for best actor. Meanwhile, Jessica Chastain, Olivia Colman, Lady Gaga, Alana Haim, Nicole Kidman and Kristen Stewart were all nominated for best actress.

Those were just the film nominees though. The fun of Critics’ Choice Awards is that television stars are honored too. Best Actor in a Drama Series was a packed category with Sterling K. Brown, Mike Colter, Brian Cox, Lee Jung-jae, Billy Porter and Jeremy Strong. Best Actress in a Drama Series was just as competitive with Uzo Aduba, Chiara Aurelia, Christine Baranski, Katja Herbers, Melanie Lynskey and MJ Rodriguez nominated.

The 27th Critics’ Choice Awards aired on The CW and TBS Sunday, March 13, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. ET.
