We keep hearing the administration and much of the press talk about improvements in the economy. This is largely based on the jobs report and the lack of inflation.

Then we pull in to the gas station to buy gasoline that's as much as 50 cents per gallon more than it was a few months ago, and rising. Then the thought runs through our head about how the government measure inflation.

Inflation figures come from Congress, and they reflect the cost of automobiles, computers, homes, computers, televisions, appliances, and etc. Not exactly our everyday purchases.

The inflation figures do not reflect the cost of gasoline, food, electricity, clothing, insurance, and other necessities of life that you and I pay everyday.

In the past 12 months, oil is up 21%, copper 42%, corn 41%, cattle 21%, wheat 43%, soy beans 38%, sugar 52%, coffee 62%, and cotton 90%. These commodities affect about everything we buy from clothing, to fuel, to food. In the meantime, wages have increased .5%.

This is exactly why more and more people are searching for a home based business this year than ever before. There are currently 29.5 million people in America that are self-employed, and another 22.5 million people are searching for a way to become self-employed.

With the condition of our economy, and the high unemployment rate, there is a re-energized interest in entrepreneurialism. People no longer feel comfortable or secure working for someone else. They have seen their co-workers, family, friends, neighbors, and others loose their jobs. And now what's on their mind is, am I next.

When you decide to work for yourself in a home business, there are dozens of advantages and benefits. Here are just a few:

– You call the shots
– You are the boss
– Personal freedom and less stress
– You can start part-time
– You pick your products and services to market
– You pick the time you want to work
– You can start small with a low investment and grow as big as you want
– You can involve all of your family in the business
– Tax advantages for operating your home business

How comfortable and secure are you in your current position? If we go through another downturn in our economy, will you depend on someone else to take care of you and your family, or will you take charge and provide your own support?

"The entrepreneur always searched for change, responds to it, and exploits it as an opportunity." –Peter Drucker, Businessman
