15 Self-Care Products You’ll Love From Black-Owned Businesses

We all know investing in your own wellness is important because you cannot pour from an empty cup, and self-care is basically a fancy term that signifies filling up your cup: taking a few moments or a whole day to care for yourself and do the things that make you feel ready to take on the world.

As a Chicago-based wellness content creator and small business owner, I make it a priority to care for myself even if it’s just a few minutes a day. But my commitment to self-care wasn’t always a given: Back when I was living in New York City, I worked full-time in tech, attended events to broaden my online community, created content, and was hard at work on the launch of my business. The pace was nonstop, and it took me much longer than I care to admit to get serious about self-care. Believe me when I say I really had to get creative with it. I’ve tried tons of products, services, and methods to figure out what’s really worth the hype.

Last fall, when I launched Activ-Ism, an antiracism wellness program with Taylor Rae Almonte, I was also reminded of how crucial self-care is when processing challenging topics. Each educational resource we provide to participants comes with a wellness component that’s intentionally designed to help participants more deeply engage with the material. As a part of my continued dedication to amplifying the voices within the Black community, I’ve also made the effort to shop at Black-owned businesses wherever possible. Black History Month is a great reminder to us all that where we spend can make a difference. Now is a great time to explore the great products Black-owned businesses have to offer (though you certainly don’t have to stop when February ends).

Self-care can be done for free and doesn’t require anything in particular, but being a busy woman, I see the value in having tools and accessories to enhance the experience and provide a little guidance, as well. These 15 self-care products are some of my favorites from great businesses that also happen to be Black-owned! I love and recommend them not because they’re Black-owned, but because they’re amazing.
