If your idea of a holiday movie is less Die Hard and more Hallmark, we’ve got news for you: There are a lot of adorable Christmas movies on Hulu (and Netflix too). Sure, you might think you don’t need earnest holiday cheer on your TV screen, but even the silliest Christmas movie premises might bring you a little joy. And let’s face it, this year a lot of us could use as much tinsel and holly as we can find.
Below, you’ll find nine Christmas movies on Hulu—most of them were added to the platform just this year. Some of them are older movies, but all of them are delightful. So if you’re spending this holiday season on the couch and could use a little Christmas-themed romance and redemption, you’ve come to the right place.
There are more Christmas movies on Hulu than the ones that appear on this list. But if you start with one or two, Hulu will suggest more. So make some tea, throw on your ugly Christmas sweater, and prepare to have your heartstrings pulled.
1. A Christmas Solo (2017)
Charlotte (Pippa Mackie) and Melissa (Kayla Wallace) are high school rivals who seem to grow more adversarial by the day. In what is probably every high schooler’s nightmare, their single parents (played by Kelli Williams and Jonathan Scarfe) intervene to encourage warmer feelings, and, well, you can see where this is going. Available now.
2. A Nanny for Christmas (2010)
Mixed signals are the name of the game when unemployed Ally (Emmanuelle Vaugier) sets out to impress an advertising executive, Samantha Ryland (Cynthia Gibb), and unwittingly commits to providing childcare. This would be fine, except that while Ally is visiting her new boss, she bumps into a handsome entrepreneur, Justin Larose (Richard Ruccolo), who thinks Ally is an advertising executive too. Available now.
3. The Truth About Christmas (2018)
When Jillian (Kali Hawk) would do almost anything to help her boyfriend, George (Damon Dayoub), But when she fibs to get a toy for his niece, Santa casts a spell that makes it impossible for her to lie—just in time for her to meet George’s entire family. Available now.
4. Christmas in Vermont (2016)
Riley Thomas (Abigail Hawk) gladly accepts when her boss (Chevy Chase) asks her to shut down a small company that employs an entire town. But a handsome business owner (David O’Donnell) has Thomas changing her plans (and, of course, her heart). Available now.
5. Christmas on Holly Lane (2018)
Three childhood friends (played by Sarah Lancaster, Karen Holness, and Gina Holden) come back together as adults to celebrate Christmas, heal personal relationships, and rediscover what’s important. (Hint: “What’s important” involves restoring an old restaurant.) Available now.
6. This Christmas (2007)
This star-studded holiday gem follows Ma’dere Whitfield (Loretta Devine) as she finally gets the family together for the first time in four years. But with long absences come major family drama, including debt, surprise marriages, and other secrets. Available now.
7. Once Upon a Time at Christmas (2017)
Not all Christmas movies are jolly, right? Once Upon a Time at Christmas is about a pair of serial killers who dress as Santa and Mrs. Claus (Simon Phillips and Sayla de Goed, respectively). They wreak havoc on a town—Merry Christmas! Available now.
8. A Christmas Movie Christmas (2019)
A Christmas Movie Christmas is for anyone who knows holiday movies are a little corny. Two sisters, Eve (Lana McKissack) and Lacy (Kimberly Daugherty), are fed up with spending the holidays alone, and they wish for the kind of Christmas that only exists in holiday movies. The result? They wake up in Holiday Falls, a town where life is as cheesy as a Christmas rom-com. Available now.
9. So This Is Christmas (2013)
Ashley (Lexi Ainsworth) seems to be misunderstood by her dad (Eric Roberts) and stepmom (Vivica A. Fox), but when she crosses paths with a handyman (Bryan Massey) while directing a play for kids, she starts to see possibilities that weren’t there for her before. Available now.
10. 12 Pups of Christmas (2019)
There’s a classic rom-com plot: Erin (Charlotte Sullivan), a dog therapist, helps Martin (Donny Boaz), the owner of a dog GPS company, find homes for some dogs, and they fall for each other. But there are so many gratuitous shots of 12 puppies, so you probably won’t care about the love story. Available now.
11. Christmas Crush (2019)
In Christmas Crush, a woman (Cindy Sampson) uses “Christmas magic” to will her neighbor into falling in love with her. It works—on the wrong neighbor. (This seems like another Christmas movie that knows how weird holiday movie premises can get.) As you can imagine, hijinks ensue. Available now.
12. Happiest Season (2020)
Happiest Season is the holiday movie that spawned an endless stream of tweets. Abby (Kristen Stewart) plans to propose to her girlfriend, Harper (Mackenzie Davis), at Harper’s family holiday party. This sounds like the heartwarming holiday movie we deserve until Abby discovers that her girlfriend hasn’t actually come out to her family. There have been mixed reviews, especially from folks in the queer community who felt the film lacks diversity and that the happy couple might actually be pretty toxic. Still, especially since holiday rom-coms don’t always model healthy relationships, Happiest Season might be worth the ride for you. Available now.
